Double Piano Triptych

Substantial three-movement work for two pianos, all performable as separate movements as well as together

Duration: 25 mins

Work no.: AS0001

Year of composition: 1992-1998

Forces: for 2 pianos

The Double Piano Triptych, one of Adrian’s earliest works, is a suite of three pieces, written between 1992-1998, inspired originally by the multi-piano group Piano Circus. They continue to perform the six-piano version of Aerobatics Over Lake Wanaka to this day.

These pieces have now been reimagined and refactored for a two-piano, two-player version for World Premier in the autumn.

The three vignettes are intended to be performed as a complete suite, but can also be performed as standalone works in their own right, each depicting a different scene:

Bicycle Dance in Lanes of Leaves and Light

Old Man Explains a Lifelong Dilemma

Aerobatics Over Lake Wanaka

The final movement also exists as a six-piano version
